Su Padre Rafael González Murua, militante socialista es detenido a finales de 1973, donde es trasladado al Estadio Nacional y luego llevado al Campamento de Prisioneros Chacabuco, es acá donde realiza pinturas y poesía para poder sobrellevar la tristeza de estar separado de su familia. A mediados de 1974 es dejado en libertad y parte al exilio en una primera instancia a Argentina, donde se encuentra con la Dictadura de Videla y debe partir a EEUU, donde finalmente se radica.
